Privacy Policy
Effective August 8, 2026. This policy applies to Newport Watch Jewelry & Loan (“we,” “us,” or “our”) and the services we provide both in-store and through our website.
Who We Are
Newport Watch Jewelry & Loan is located at 1860 Newport Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA 92627 and can be reached at (949) 673-3888. For privacy questions you can also write to us at the email address listed on our website.
Information We Collect
To comply with state pawnbroker / secondhand-dealer law and to operate our business, we collect:
- Identification information required by state law: your name, date of birth, address, government-issued ID type and number, an image of the identification document, and (where required) a thumbprint, taken at the time of a pawn loan or sale of merchandise to us.
- Contact information you provide: phone number, email address, and mailing address used to send loan reminders, notices, receipts, and customer-service messages.
- Transaction information: details of the items you pawn, sell, or purchase from us, payment amounts, payment methods, and dates.
- Website information: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages viewed) when you visit our website.
AI-Assisted Operator Tools and ID OCR
When our staff use the features described below, information is transmitted to Anthropic, an external artificial-intelligence processing vendor, so it can provide the requested feature on our behalf. This is a service-provider transfer for business operations; it is not a sale of personal information or a transfer for marketing or advertising.
Operator Search and Assistance
Staff may use an AI-assisted search and chat tool to locate business records, summarize loan or transaction information, and prepare an action for staff confirmation. The information sent may include the staff member's search text and minimized results such as customer or seller names, loan and transaction numbers, dates, amounts, statuses, and relevant item descriptions, brands, reference numbers, or serial numbers.
Stored phone numbers, email addresses, street or mailing addresses, dates of birth, government-ID numbers, and ID images are excluded from the assistant's automated database results. If a staff member types any of that information directly into a search or chat prompt—for example, using a phone number to locate a contact—the typed prompt is transmitted to Anthropic as part of that request.
Government-ID Image Reading
Staff may use an AI-assisted optical-character-recognition feature to read a driver's license, state ID, passport, passport card, or other government-issued identification document. The document image is transmitted to Anthropic to classify the document and extract fields used for intake and legal-compliance records. Depending on what is visible, those fields may include name, address, date of birth, document type and number, issuing state or country, issue and expiration dates, sex, and nationality.
How We Use Your Information
- To service your pawn loan, sale, or purchase, including payment processing, receipt delivery, and required state reporting.
- To send transactional text messages and emails such as payment reminders, payoff confirmations, forfeiture notices, and pickup notifications.
- To comply with state and federal law, including reporting transactions to law enforcement agencies (e.g. CAPSS in California) as required by the California Business & Professions Code and equivalent statutes.
- To detect, prevent, and investigate fraud or unlawful activity.
SMS / Text Messaging
We send transactional and customer-service text messages to phone numbers you provide when you do business with us — for example, reminders that your pawn loan is approaching its due date, payoff confirmations, or notice that an item is ready for pickup. You opt in only when you provide your mobile number and explicitly confirm consent with our staff, or when you text START or YES to us. Selecting an SMS request box on a public interest form does not activate messages until you confirm by text.
Message Frequency
Message frequency varies based on your account activity. You should not typically expect to receive more than a few messages per month per active loan or order. During the final week before a loan becomes due, you may receive up to one reminder per day.
Message and Data Rates
Message and data rates may apply. Your wireless carrier may charge you for sending or receiving text messages depending on your plan. We do not charge a fee for the messages themselves.
Opt-Out and Help
You can stop receiving text messages from us at any time by replying STOP to any of our messages. Reply HELP for help, or contact us using the information at the top of this policy. Opting out of SMS does not end any underlying business relationship; we may continue to contact you by phone, email, or mail to fulfill our obligations to you (such as sending a legally required forfeiture notice).
Mobile Phone Numbers Are Not Sold or Shared for Marketing
We do not share, sell, rent, or transfer mobile phone numbers or SMS opt-in data to any third party or affiliate for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes under any circumstances.
We transmit a mobile number outside of our own systems only for the limited operational or legal purposes below:
- To the licensed telecommunications providers (such as Twilio) that deliver our text messages to your carrier — solely to deliver the message you opted in to receive.
- To our AI processing vendor if a staff member uses the number as an operator-search term — solely to perform that staff-requested search, as described under AI-Assisted Operator Tools and ID OCR above.
- When required by law, court order, subpoena, or formal request from law enforcement.
We do not provide mobile numbers to any service provider for that provider's own marketing or promotional use.
Other Information Sharing
We share other personal information only in limited circumstances:
- Law enforcement and regulators — pawn and secondhand-dealer transaction details, customer identification, and item descriptions are reported to local police and to state systems such as CAPSS as required by law.
- Service providers — payment processors, hosting providers, mailing-service vendors (e.g. Lob for certified mail), email senders, SMS carriers, and the AI processing vendor described above receive information to perform services on our behalf.
- Legal compliance — to respond to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal process, or to protect our rights.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Data Retention
Pawn and secondhand-dealer transaction records are retained for the period required by state law (in California, at least two years following the transaction). Other personal information is retained for as long as needed for the purposes described above or as otherwise required by law.
Security
We maintain reasonable physical, administrative, and technical safeguards designed to protect your personal information. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to legal exceptions (for example, we are required by law to retain pawn-transaction records). California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act. Contact us using the information at the top of this policy to make a request.
Children
Our services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective” date at the top of the page.
